TWIG GIRDLER -
Adults of the twig girdler emerge from twigs in August or September, mate and then the females girdle living twigs and lay eggs in the part that will die. One generation occurs each year. Gathering twigs in the winter and burning them will help reduce the problem.
The twig girdler overwinters as a partially grown larva. In the spring and summer it completes its development and pupates. Then the cycle repeats itself. The mesquite twig girdler had been reported to be a problem in far west Texas occasionally.
