Proper Spacing is Important in Preventing Pests and Disease

Space is needed for air movement and sunlight penetration between and around trees. This is essential for the drying of leaves to help reduce risk of pecan scab in spring and summer and economic infestations of black aphid in late summer. Crowded orchards have a much more serious scab  and black aphid problem and will often need more sprays.
